Vavia’s First Big Boo Boo

I had lunch with Mackenzie today and after lunch went to the bookstore to pick up our next book for our bookclub. While I was at the store, Richard was leaving me a series of frantic messages. The first was by far the most frantic, but each message got considerably calmer. Vavia had taken a tumble off of the couch and hit her head, presumably, on the foot of the ottoman. There was a lot of blood spattered and she was obviously upset. She luckily was able to calm down rather quickly and Richard took her to the emergency room. By the time Richard and I got in touch, I was leaving the store so we raced home to grab the diaper bag and then Mackenzie drove me to the emergency room. I was in too much of a panic to bother looking for my keys.

I walked into Room 3 to see my adorable little girl playing with a fake gumball machine, a very large smile on her face and a huge bandage wrapped all around her head. Even though she was clearly in good spirits, being the mother that I am, I broke into tears. No mother ever wants to see her child in pain or imagine her child in pain.

The nurses cleaned up her would the best they could under all of her wild hair and then the doctor came in and punched two staples into her head to hold the wound together and try to prevent any future bumps from causing further injury.

This was hard for me. No matter what the doctors tell you about it “not hurting”, when you hear the staple gun, it’s hard to imagine that it didn’t hurt her, especially when she is crying uncontrollably. That’s about the point that I lost it and was in tears. I felt a little silly but at the same time, I thought, what mother wouldn’t be in tears seeing her child hurt.

I had planned on posting photos from our vacation in Oklahoma today, but I wanted to record her boo boo while it was fresh in my memory. I wonder if she will have a cool scar on her head…like her daddy? Well, even if she did, she’d have to shave her head to see it and I pray she never decides to do that.

Sister please. If shaving her head is the worst that you have to deal with, you are pretty darn lucky. Plus, if she shaves her head that means that she has the self confidence to pull it off, which is AWESOME!!!! Plus, she will be able to show off her tattoo that she is going to put right next to her scar.
